Two Scenes (2009)
Soprano Cornet and Brass Band
Difficulty: 5
Duration: c. 5.30 minutes
Publisher: Studio Music Company
Two Scenes was commissioned by soprano cornet player Martin Britt for his debut solo album in aid of the charity Leukemia Research. It was recorded by a 'celebrity' brass band in 2009 in London, conducted by Frank Renton.
The work is set out in two continuous movements, I. Night Lights II. Sunrise, depicting the transition from night to dawn overlooking a busy cityscape.
This is by no means a traditional soprano cornet solo. Its lush harmony, sweeping melodic line and riff like opening sections are firmly derived from progressive rock music.
