A Scottish Rhapsody was composed in 2019 for Rachel Neil, solo horn of the Fairey Band and alumnus of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. The piece was commissioned with suppler from the Scottish Brass Band Association was premiered at the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland Easter residency in March 2019, conducted by Ian Porthouse.
Ceremony and the arts are at the very core of Scotland’s national identity, something with which I identify as a fellow Celt. In three connected but contrasting sections A Scottish Rhapsody symbolises some of these Celtic traditions; beginning with a dignified processional, through a lyrical pastorale and culminating in a lively dance.
Difficulty: 5
Duration: c. 8 minutes
