Cries of Rhiannon (2012)
Soprano Cornet and Brass Band
Difficulty: 5
Duration: c. 4 minutes
Publisher: Studio Music Company
Cries of Rhiannon was commissioned by the Cory Band in late 2012 for their soprano cornet soloist Steve Stewart. With Tom working closely with Steve throughout the composition process, the aim of the piece was to produce a musically substantial work for soprano cornet, whilst keeping duration acceptable for concert performance.
Cries of Rhiannon takes it's inspiration from the tragic story of Rhiannon and Pwll (a tale of loss, deception, murder and torture) from the 'First Branch' of the Mabinogi, a medieval collection of Welsh folklore.
